This is a record of their adventure

Badwater and the Floor of Death Valley
This is the classic image of Death Valley, salt plains, 282 feet below sea level.
We found it a thrilling place to paint, framed by mile-high mountains and twenty mile vistas.
Of course we were very careful, carrying lots of emergency water
and working only in the early mornings.
2005 was a very rare year (twice a century or so) when there was so much rain that there was a lake in Badwater!

Golden Canyon
Easily accessible, this area of colorful badlands was one of our favorite places.
We would love to paint here more.  Best seen in the late afternoon when it turns fiery.

Surprise Canyon
One of the few places in Death Valley National Park with year round running water.
Surprise Canyon was a route high into the Panamint Mountains to a silver mining town,
founded in the 1870s, today a remote ghost town.  Today Surprise is an area of contention,
site of debate between wilderness preservation advocates and elements of the ORV community.
The argument is over whether to allow vehicles to drive up this delicate environment.
Surprise Canyon is under temporary vehicle closure and we found
the roads vanishing and wildly recovering plant life.

Stormy Skies over Death Valley

Clouds would come over, rain would fall, but it would evaporate before reaching the ground.

Saline Valley
The most remote part of the park that we reached.  The size and character of Death Valley,
but with very few visitors, no paved roads or facilities of any kind... except a wonderful hot spring.
